The Best French Toast Ever

Writer: LeahLeah

I remember growing up, every year for Thanksgiving we would wake up to homemade French Toast and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was the kind of French Toast that you would eat more than you should, because it was just that. good. We would go through a whole loaf of bread because everyone would eat a second helping. Now that I have my own kids, I decided to carry this tradition on! I finally asked my dad for his recipe in my twenties, when I was living on my own and missing a piece of home. Over the years I've played around with ingredients, and have found the perfect combination. You definitely want to save this recipe and give it a try.

You will never need another French Toast recipe again!

Please enjoy our family recipe of The Best French Toast Ever!

Grab your favorite loaf of bread; you will be using the whole thing! (It's that good!) I would suggest using a butter bread, white bread, or Texas toast to get the best flavor.

You will need eggs, milk, white granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, cooking spray and butter. Whisk all of the wet ingredients together and then add in your sugars. Leave the cinnamon to the side; you will sprinkle it on the toast individually while cooking. You will also need a cooking spray, and some butter for serving; because everything is better with butter! Oh yeah... and you won't even need syrup or whipped cream! Just eat it as is with butter. I promise, it's perfect!

Now, I apologize for missing a step in visual form... it was Thanksgiving morning and I was multi-tasking, as always. Once you have everything mixed together you will take a piece of bread and dunk it into the bowl. Completely submerge the bread and allow it to soak in the mixture; flipping and turning as needed. Make sure you spray your pan with a cooking spray and then place the soaked bread on the pan.

My stove runs a little hot, so I cooked mine on medium low. You will want to cook it for about 6 minutes total, but use your best judgement based on the heat of your burner. It's time to sprinkle these babies with ground cinnamon! I find this to be the easiest way to get an even distribution of the cinnamon. Sprinkle on the uncooked side before flipping to the cooked side. Flip the bread and repeat! (Don't forget to sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on the other side, too!)

The brown sugar gives just enough caramelization to make this a top notch French Toast. It adds a slight "bite" to it and a dimension to the overall texture. I added the Vanilla extract and brown sugar after playing with my dad's recipe, and honestly I have to say, I don't know why he never thought of it! It makes such a difference...

It's hard for me to order French Toast at restaurants now, because it's never the same as our family recipe! It's always either too "egg-y" or too dry. But THIS is the answer you have been looking for! This homemade French Toast recipe is a keeper. You definitely need to give it a try! And when you do, you just might add this recipe to your Holiday traditions!

Don't forget to save this recipe and give it a try!

It is so easy and delicious, I promise you won't regret it!
