Simple Snowman Activity For Toddlers

Writer: LeahLeah

If you're anything like me, you LOVE doing fun activities with your kids; especially when it comes to Holiday-type arts and crafts. I live for themed concepts and Holiday inspired activities...

This snowman activity is very simple, but allows for creativity and can be personalized however you choose. My child had fun picking out his snowman and thought it was so cool watching it go from computer, to paper, to the snowman door hanger! I hope you and your children have fun doing this easy winter craft together!

Gather your supplies! Grab a paper plate (or a few), some cotton balls, your snowman shapes, some glue, some string and scissors and/or a hole punch. You can definitely customize your snowman anyway you want... You can do multiple snowman faces on several plates, a full snowman body, a colorable snowman, or even cut out felt shapes to use with a hot glue gun. The possibilities are endless! But the goal of this blog is to serve as a starting place, some inspiration, so that you can easily complete this task, even if you have minimal resources.

Make your holes and thread your string (yarn, etc.) before you begin gluing on cotton balls. If you have a hole punch, this will be quicker to accomplish, but I just gently pushed my scissors through a regular white paper plate to create a space for my hanging string.

I tied the string on the back but you should be able to do it on either side. If you are concerned, you can add a few pieces of tape to really secure the string. You could also stack several plates to create a "true" snowman shape (3 plates up and down). For this you would want to create small loops to connect the plates vertically. You might also like to create or print out some "button" shapes, or maybe even a scarf, for the body.

Once you have all of your supplies together and your plate(s) threaded with string, grab some glue and your cotton balls. I let my child use a cheap sponge paintbrush to spread all of the glue around the plate, but you don't have to do that. You could leave it as is, swirled all around the plate.

I gave him a bowl of cotton balls and let him "decorate" his snowman's face. He really enjoyed the glue part best, but he got a kick out of making a "face" for his snowman craft.

Once you get all of the snowballs (cotton balls) glued to your paper plate(s), you can start adding the face! Now, you can cut out your own shapes if you want, you don't have to print out a template, but I thought this would be the easiest, quickest way for us to complete this activity (with minimal fits). If you wanted to make a felt snowman, you could absolutely use different cut shapes of felt paper instead.

I let my child pick out his favorite snowman from the images below, and I let him pick the accessories. You can google "Snowman template" or "snowman cutout" to find different ideas, if you don't see one you like below.

For an extra step to this activity, you could add coloring or painting the snowman "shapes," So let's say that you have a black and white outline of a hat, your child could color that in before cutting it out and gluing it to the cotton balls on the paper plate.

Keep going until you have all parts of your snowman glued together, on the paper plate. Display your snowman creation wherever you want. Don't forget to show me the snowmen your kids make! Feel free to add me on social media and send me a message to tell me about how you and your kids did this craft! I'd love to see how you adapted it!

There are tons of images out there that you could use, but here are a few to get you started. Once you save the faces image below, "crop" the picture down to your favorite face so that it is the only one left on the image. Resize the cropped down image when you print to make sure it is proportionate to the paper plate you are using. I re-sized our snowman face to about 600x600.

Save this blog for future reference, so that you can remember this activity whenever you are looking for a fun, easy snowman craft to do. Thank you for taking the time to explore my website and share these blogs with your friends.

I hope you enjoy your Holiday season and have a very Happy New Year!
